Combining Regions #
In the Region Library, choose Combine Regions, select at least two Regions you own and choose Union preview. You can combine three, seven or more boundaries, up to 50 in one operation. Searching the list hides non-matching items without clearing their selection.
For example, save the OSM boundaries of Spala and Sulejow Landscape Parks as two Regions. Select both, review the result, name it “Pilica Landscape Parks” and save it.
What union means #
The result includes every location within at least one source boundary. Overlapping parts are dissolved. Separate parts remain separate: they form one multipart Region (MultiPolygon), not an artificial outline that also includes the land between the parks. Holes remain excluded unless another selected Region covers them.
The active result filters records by coordinates like any other Region. Overlapping boundaries do not duplicate records or grant additional access to data.
Saving and further work #
After previewing, enter a name and an optional description. Save as a new Region keeps your previous active filter. Save and activate makes the new Region the only active geographic filter.
The new Region is a private, independent geometry snapshot. Editing or deleting a source does not change the result. You can edit it, activate it and include it in another union. It is not a group that automatically synchronizes with its members. To obtain the updated union of changed boundaries, combine them again.
Source and version information, including available license metadata, is retained. Combining does not change the source licenses. Protected overlays supplied by ENTOMONE are not available as inputs.
| Operation | Availability |
|---|---|
| Boundary selection | Regions you own in the Library, including previously imported Regions |
| Boundary import | On the main Regions page, then select from the Library |
| Saving the result | A new Region independent of the Dataset |
| GeoJSON copy | Attempted on the connected Google Drive; a failed copy does not undo the Library save |
Limits and messages #
A preview is valid for 20 minutes. A new preview replaces the previous one, including one opened in another browser tab. If a source boundary changes before saving, generate a new preview. Source access is checked again when saving.
The limits are 100,000 total input vertices and a 15 MB result. Invalid boundaries, such as self-intersections or holes outside the outline, must be corrected first. The operation does not automatically repair them. Computation uses WGS84 coordinates and is not an area measurement tool. Boundaries crossing the 180th meridian must first be split in a GIS tool.
