Map Explorer #
Map Explorer is a read-only analytical view of observations, sites and Regions available in the selected Database. It does not edit coordinates or create records.
Opening the view #
Choose Data → Map Explorer. The main map buttons on record, species and site cards open the same view. Open compatibility map starts the older map on a device without WebGL 2 or when the base map is unavailable.
Filters and layers #
- Database limits data to a collection you explicitly have access to.
- Date from / Date to limits observations to a period.
- Taxon selects an exact name from the active Database.
- Observations, Sites and Regions can be shown or hidden independently.
Observation points are grouped into clusters. Select a cluster to expand it, or select an individual point, site or Region to open its card and continue to the existing ENTOMONE view.
A record card opened from Map Explorer uses the Database assigned to that point. If the record belongs to the active Database and you have the required permission, you can edit it just like a record opened from the list. A record from another Database remains a read-only preview: Map Explorer does not switch the active Database or change the user's default Database.
Map controls #
Use + and − to change zoom, and use the full-screen button to display only the map. The controls on the right change the base map and search for a place. The green corner expands the map by hiding the filters panel; select it again to restore the panel. The mouse wheel changes zoom without requiring Ctrl.
Phone and keyboard #
On a phone, Filters opens a sheet from the bottom. Close it with the close button, by selecting the backdrop, or with Escape. Keyboard focus stays inside the open sheet and returns to Filters after closing.
Link to the current view #
The selected Database, map position, zoom, dates, taxon and visible layers are stored after # in the address. The link can be opened again. Do not place private notes or other sensitive data in it.
Access and privacy #
Map Explorer respects explicit Database membership and does not grant an administrator automatic access to another collection. It shows only records present in the active record index and does not reveal private storage paths.
