Copy a record #
Copying a record lets you create another entry from the same field trip, based on an existing record.
What is usually worth copying #
Use Create new record on a record's data card when the next photographs come from the same trip, including an earlier trip. ENTOMONE keeps the active database and copies the source record's date, site, locality and country.
The copy preserves the taxon, specimen quantity and sex, host plant, acquisition source (Nature/Breeding), breeding stage, life stage and notes. Review the data and adjust it to the new observation before saving.
The observation or material collection date stays the same as in the source record. When copying a breeding record, the date the specimen was obtained is set to the day the copy is created. The user making the copy becomes its observer, including when the source record belongs to another person.
The selected photo's GPS does not limit the series. You can add a photo taken later, including one made outside the site or without GPS, for example during breeding.
What not to copy without checking #
Source media are not copied. Add photos of the new observation separately. The copy is a separate record: editing it does not change the source record.
After saving, you can add another record with the same trip context. Choose End series to clear that context and return to normal Field Notebook work.
When not to use a copy #
Do not use this function when the new record has a different site, locality, country or date. It is also not a replacement for importing a larger spreadsheet.
